Belako’s newest release throws you in at the deep end, pounding out thirty seconds of full-on heavy metal alongside a soaring synth note. The Spanish band have figured out how to combine serious intensity with moments of musical magical: the verses here showcase the chunky bass lines of Lore Nekane Billelabeitia and the French language vocal of Cristina Lizarraga, while there is enough crushing intensity separating them to make Black Sabbath blush. Lyrically, ‘Sirène’ takes a powerful stance in support of true equality and transgender rights. While we might not have access to live shows at the moment, Belako pride themselves on being one of the finest live acts Spain has to offer- check them out when the chance finally rolls around. -Dan Peeke
